The
Palooka is the story of
a washed up prize
fighter named
Lloyd in
Philadelphia
of the early 1960s.
Lloyd has no manager,
plenty of losses
and no sense
for the angles it takes
to make it in boxing.
He relies
solely on the
strength of his hands
and the logic of his
own uncanny
superstitions. It’s
just not enough
and opportunity
seems to be melting
away until an
old friend re-enters
Lloyd’s life. The friend
brings not only the
prospect
of a
better life
but a host of dangerous
acquaintances. Lloyd
finds himself in a
world far more
perilous than the ring
- where trust comes
and
goes
like rounds
and victory comes
only on the terms of
betrayal.
